The Boxes Are Complete!

Hello everyone. This is Tommy. We finished the two sandboxes at Harelson Elementary School two weeks ago on Saturday January 22. It took half the time to build the boxes as planned, we were done by noon and had Eeggees sandwiches and lemon frozen slushes for lunch. The boxes turned out nice and the principal Mr.Heinemann and his wife came by during the work and was amazed at the number of scouts and adults that were helping. He asked me to come by the next Monday morning at the start of school so the kindergartners could say thanks for the new sandboxes. They didn't know they were getting them so they were going to be surprised. I went by on Monday and they were real excited and already playing in them. The teachers were also happy to have the sandboxes. They said they have been wanting them for a few years.

Here we are just getting started by digging the post holes for the boxes.

The wood is getting ready to be cut

After cutting the drilling and assembly of the posts and boards is being done.

The boxes were put together with two halves and then bolted together after putting them in the holes.

When the two halves were put together we had to get them level and square in the holes that were dug. We used the 2 feet of board we cut off of some of the boards as corner seats for the kids.

We had to fill in the postholes and tamp the dirt down so the boxes would not move.

The final loads of sand were then put into the boxes.

The Troop left their mark on the final products.

Here is the whole scout troop that worked on the project.

Thanks to all of my scout friends and adults that helped with the project. I got a big envelope of thank you notes from the kindergartners and their teachers because they really like their new sandboxes.

Tommy
